Cleaner, Safer and Faster – Keep PUA, aka potentially unwanted apps at bay!

There are three simple methods you can follow to protect your computer and prevent the installation of PUAs.

So here’s what you should do:

  • Method 1:

When you are downloading and installing software, make sure to analyze each step very closely.

Don’t act careless and lazy to read the information if it is not from trusted publishers. Many people don’t read the instructions and become the victim.

So give at least a moment of pause while installing any app from an unknown publisher.

  • Method 2:

Ensure that your computer system is up-to-date. If you don’t know how then you can go to the Windows Update in the setting. Next, you can check to see if you have the latest updates installed or not.

  • Method 3:

In the third method, make sure to never grant set-up permission to modify settings that are not important to the installation in Windows 10.

To do that, you will have to block unwanted apps on your PC by turning on Windows Security supports. After doing that, Microsoft Defender will protect your computer, and look out for PUA and stop any irrelevant items that it spots.

Here is how to turn potentially unwanted app blocking on in Windows Security:

Step 1:

Go to the search menu on the taskbar and type Windows Security.

Press S + Windows Logo Key together and type Windows Security. Then, click Enter to launch the app.

Step 2:

Now, go to App & browser control in the Windows Security app. Then, click on Reputation-based protections settings.

Step 3:

After completing the above step, go to the Potentially unwanted app blocking located right below the SmartScreen to Microsoft Edge section.

There, you will have to turn off the switch and tick on the Block Apps and Block downloads column.

Many times, this feature is turned off by default, so we suggest you turn it on and tick in both boxes.

Here is what Block apps do:

The Block apps will find the potentially unwanted apps that you have already installed or downloaded. After doing that, Windows Security will protect you from PUAs.

Here is what Block downloads do:

The Block downloads locate potentially unwanted apps as it is being downloaded. However, it won’t work for you if you are using the old Microsoft Edge browser.

A small note:

  • Always read and observe everything, use common sense, and stay sharp before installing anything.
  • Also, make sure your antivirus is up to date, and you have enabled PUA detection.
